Increasing the fatigue strength of the welded structure of the trailer due to the increase in the damping capacity of its parts
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article deals with the problem related to increasing the fatigue strength of the welded connection of spars – cross member of the frame metal structure of the trailer. To solve it, instead of a rigid structure of the node, it was proposed to use a damping one with variable stiffness of one of the elements (handkerchief). A total of three design versions of the connection were developed, each of which differed in different stiffness of the scarf (degree of damping). For a comparative experi- mental assessment of the fatigue strength of this unit, appropriate models were designed and manufactured, as well as adaptations to the testing machine. The fatigue strength of the models was determined by two experimental and computational accelerated methods. Their endurance limits were taken as defined cha- racteristics of fatigue resistance. Both methods showed close results. Based on the analysis of the obtained experimental data, the most rational version of the connection design was chosen from the point of view of fatigue strength and material consumption.
